I had a 541 sporter with Leupold 6.5-20X and shot it in rimfire silhouette for several years until it was stolen from my truck. It was extremely accurate with CCI Green Tag ammo. My son has one in a heavy barrel, and it is a shooter also.

JH, you sound like you just throwed $179 in the pot and are drawing one card to an inside straight! Anyhow, having shot probably a couple dozen 541S( maybe a few less), a few 541T and a few 580-, 581, and 582 rifles. It is my opinion that the 541s will on average be the better shooter and I attribute most of this to the trigger.I contacted Brian Voelker and he does rebarrel 541's, but indicates a nominal 1.000" is the maximum diameter. I will consider rebarrelling in the future, but the gun shoots very well with the Voelker accurized Remington barrel. (He will thread your barrel to the action.)

For comparison the accuracy is about the same as a CZ 452 or 455. The stock on the rem is plainer and the magazines on the rem are plastic. The 541 trigger feels a little better than the CZ. I definately wouldn't pay the 450-500 that folks want for a 541 today, not that good of a gun. But they're not bad either.

I feel like $800 is high, but it won't be long before typical pricing is at that point. I think they'd sell that rifle for $700 since you are only talking about another $50 over a fair price.The rear stud was drilled 2" in front of buttstock without the spacer and buttplate added. The front stud was placed 3/4" behind the fore-end without the tip and spacer in place. Some believe that Remington added sights to some 541S but I do not believe that to be so.
