When you cast Scorching Ray or Magic Missile Foundry creates a pop up asking if you want to spend a spell slot and at what level. This is what actually “casts” the spell and consumes the slot. Then an item card for the spell you cast pops up in chat, with an “attack” and a “damage” button.

With MIDI-QOL you do have a few options in your automation. You can choose to fast forward only attack rolls or attack/damage. You can choose to have saves automatically rolled, players roll it themselves, or prompt the players.
